5 Ways You And Your Family Can Save Water

|

We have seen the sun peek through the clouds a little bit more these last few weeks and, now that daylight savings time has officially landed, there is no question that spring is in the air.

If you’re anything like us, you’ve got a whole list of home improvement projects that you are just itching to get checked off of your list this spring before the summer fun begins.

Once the summer arrives, spare time should be spent relaxing with family and soaking up the summer sun. So, it is important to start your home improvement projects now to ensure that you have plenty of time to gather all of the materials … and money.

Doing home improvement projects around the house is a great way to improve the long-term value of your home, not to mention the aesthetics, but it also costs money up front. To save money for your spring projects, start saving water now.

Here are just a few ‘out of the box’ ways that some people save water each month:

  • Make sure that everyone in your home turns the water off when they are brushing their teeth. This will save 50 gallons of water each week.
  • Keep a watering can next to your kitchen sink and each time there is a cup of unfinished water laying around, pour it into the watering can. Then when you water your plants, use the watering can that is filled with leftover water.
  • Use a bucket of water to give your small children a bath rather than filling the tub with water.
  • Pay close attention to your water bill each month, and if there is a big influx have your plumbing inspected for leaks.
  • Designate one day per week for washing laundry. Keep the loads to a minimum by reducing the amount of clothes that each person in your family owns.

Saving water is a great thing to do for the environment but, it also can have a big impact on your month utility budget. When you save water you also save power because the power doesn’t have to heat up as much water.
